OVERVIEW

The Fluffy Jackets are an award winning blues-rock band formed in 2006. Originally signed to Cargo Records, the band have built a catalogue spanning two decades of releases and is now operating as an independent artist. Along the way, the band has worked with respected musicians including bassist Neil Murray (Whitesnake, Black Sabbath), producer and guitarist Manny Charlton (Nazareth), and US slide guitarist Matt Bradford.

Their music draws inspiration from artists such as Free, Nazareth, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lowell George, Chuck Berry, and John Lee Hooker. Recent releases have earned recognition in the rock press, including coverage in Classic Rock Magazine.

More than twenty years after their formation, The Fluffy Jackets remain committed to record and release new music, while continuing to evolve both creatively and professionally.

Since their self-titled debut EP in 2007, The Fluffy Jackets have received coverage in rock and blues media in the UK, Europe, South America and the US. Their releases are regularly featured and reviewed in publications including Classic Rock Magazine, Record Collector, Louder, Blues Matters, Get Ready to Rock, Time Out London, and Antimusic.com. Recent highlights include a review of Comparison Blues in Classic Rock Magazine (Issue #353, June 2026), where reviewer Chris Lord described the album as featuring “well-tailored tunes” and noted that “Rognstad is still writing good songs.”

SOUND AND INFLUENCES

Rooted in the classic sounds of Free, Nazareth and Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Fluffy Jackets mix blues-rock, country influences and singer-songwriter craftsmanship with a modern independent spirit. The band focuses on strong songwriting, memorable hooks, and expressive guitar work. Their songwriting influences include Lowell George (Little Feat), Chuck Berry and John Lee Hooker.

LINE-UP & COLLABORATORS

The Fluffy Jackets are led by singer-songwriter Helge Rognstad (vocals, guitars) and have developed over time through collaborations with musicians from across the rock and blues world. Bassist Neil Murray (Whitesnake, Black Sabbath) has played on the band's recordings since the first EP in 2007, while drummer Matija Bajtal joined for the 2024 release The Rise and Fall of the Songwriter. 

The band’s history includes founding drummer Ian Robinson (2006-2009), followed by Nick Rhodes (drums, 2009-2023) and Jerry Bessent (bass, 2007-2023). Each has played a part in the band's development over nearly two decades.

Alongside its core line-up, The Fluffy Jackets have worked with respected musicians over the years. Most notably, Manny Charlton (Nazareth) produced the debut album Fighting Demons (2014) and the follow-up Something from Nothing (2019), also contributing guitar to both releases. Other guests on Fighting Demons (2014) included Rob Hall (drummer with the Jerry Lee Lewis' Killer band), vocalist Emil Gammeltoft (Swedish band SKOR), and harmonica player Steve “West” Weston (Wilko Johnson, Mud Morganfield and Swedish blues band Trickbag) also joined as special guests. In 2022, Ronni Le Tekrø (TNT) featured on a single with The Halloween Project and The Fluffy Jackets. More recent releases have also featured guest appearances from US slide guitarist Matt Bradford.
